Frequently Asked Questions
What types of magic do you specialize in?
My focus has changed throughout the years and will likely continue to develop.
I started by learning sleight of hand magic whereas I am currently more focused on techniques that revolve around mentalism, psychology, and hypnosis… But who knows what the future holds! Oh yeah… I do (mentalist).
What is your favorite trick?
The ones that aren’t planned, but that I can take credit for!
Imagine that you’re a magician performing for someone at a restaurant, and they challenge you to make their meal appear… but as they turn to you to ask the question, the waiter has delivered their food without them noticing. At that point just say “yes”, snap your fingers, and watch them process the magic!
This happens more often than you’d think ;)
Do you create your own magic?
Yes. But often my performances take inspiration from a lot of places, including other artforms. I often start with classic magic ideas, mix them with my own, add some hypnosis and mentalism, and work on all of it with friends to create unique performances. Magic is often a collaboration.
What special qualities should a magician have?
Good magicians have a technical mastery of the tricks. Great magicians have mastered the ability to listen and engage people without tricks. The more you can take an interest in others, the more engaged people will be with your performances.
What happens if you make a mistake on stage?
Sometimes things don’t work… but being upset or frustrated will only make it worse! So laugh, make a joke about it, and remember that someday this will be a funny story.
What is your advice to people who wish to be a magician?
Start performing now, everywhere you can! It might be scary, but every opportunity you have to perform will make you better. Do it for free if you have to because magic can only happen if people are watching.
What is magic for you?
It’s a feeling that we can share with others. It’s a sense that there are things in the universe that we don’t fully understand, which means that anything is possible. In the age of the internet and unlimited information… that feeling has become rare.
